In the absence of an official word for Poetry Friday, I have coughed up one of my own in wheezing hairball fashion. This week the Missus received an email with her niece’s self portrait. It was a very striking close up rendered in graphite, with an emphasis on contrast. So the word that inspired today’s offering is portrait
Thanks to all who participated in last weeks request for hand pictures. It was an honor to view the hands of so many thoughtful bloggers.

Interesting, i took the poem to be about the interaction between a child and an adult, where the child figures out that the adult doesn’t always tell the truth.
But then that picture, which caused a stong emotional reaction in me, is not about an adult and a child, but two adults. Which changed the meaning of the poem for me.
God, i love that drawing.

Your poem made me think of the word ‘betrayal’ . Great drawing.

Damn, great stuff. I’m trying to figure out the connection between the hot drawing and the poem. Heck why bother, you’re awesome Patches. Well done kitty. Oh, that sounds pervy with this post.

Chani, I try to utilize the handwriting to give the prose “my voice”.
Sanjay, thank you
Amanda, thanks. He’s greek, not canadian.
meno, I didn’t consider the parent child relationship when I was working on the draft, but that assessment fits nicely….without the picture of course. Having to scroll down the page, aids in building the mystery. I was a little nervous after I posted this and viewed on line the first time. I love the implications of the drawing, but I was a little fearful, I may have crossed on a boundary on this one.
Lynn, betrayal indeed. Mind if I borrow that for the title? I hardly ever rember to title anything…art included.

Wow what a drawing. And like Meno, I wasn’t expecting it at all.
I love the poem, the softness and need in it.

Maggie, one of the things I enjoy about poetry, is like life, it is seldom a black and white what you see is what you get issue. I’m trying to work on my, sometimes less is more with the drawings, I tend to over work, when a few strokes can tell an entire story.

If you feel the need to ‘title’ this work, I would feel honored if you labeled it ‘Betrayal’.
